What is Panchakarma ?

According to ayurveda, diseases formed in the body are due to the formation of toxins or ama. Regular cleansing of the body by removing ama is helpful in treatment of any disease. Panchakarma is the bio-purification therapy/detoxification therapy which helps to expel toxins from the body to prevent or cure the diseases. This therapy helpful in many chronic diseases where allopathic treatment or surgery has its limitation. It is also helpful in maintaining to youthfulness and building immunity. It also helps in better absorption of the medicines taken orally. Skin diseases, hair diseases, besity, diabetes, thyroid, insomnia, anxiety, sinusitis, migraine, gastrointestinal disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, neurological disorders, renal failure , kidney stones, gall bladder stones, asthma, copd and many other diseases are there where panchakarma prove its immense effect.

This therapy has 3 stages- Poorva Karma(pre cleansing measure), Pradhan Karma(main cleansing measure) and Pashchaat Karma(post cleaning measure).

1) POORVA KARMA

Before the main procedure there is a need to prepare the body in specific methods to encourage the body to let go out the toxins. It includes snehana (oleation-internal and external)and swedana (sudation/sweating) . Snehana and swedana helps the toxins to loosen from the surroundings and move to gastrointestinal tract.

2) PRADHAN KARMA

there are 5 main cleansing methods:

  1. Vamanatherapeutic emesis.
  2. Virechanatherapeutic purgation.
  3. Bastitherapeutic enema.
  4. Nasya administration of drugs through nose.
  5. Raktamokshanblood letting therapy.

3) PASCHAAT KARMA

after the main cleansing procedure one has to follow the diet and life style regime according to ayurveda to gain a new level of strength and energy.
