The renal/urinary system consists of kidneys, urinary bladder, urethra and ureter which is responsible for the elimination of toxins from the body. Ayurved explains 13 types of mutraghata i.e urinary problems and their ayurvedic management.
Burning micturition, blood in urine, urinary tract infection, kidney stone, urethral stricture, acute and chronic renal failure, prostatitis are a few urinary system disorders in which Ayurveda has very promising results. Due to toxins deposition and habit of delay voiding of urine, many problems in the urinary system may occur. Regular cleansing of the body and following an ayurvedic diet and lifestyle one not only can cure diseases but can prevent them.

This therapy has 3 stages- Poorva Karma(pre cleansing measure), Pradhan Karma(main cleansing measure) and Pashchaat Karma(post cleaning measure).
1) POORVA KARMA
Before the main procedure there is a need to prepare the body in specific methods to encourage the body to let go out the toxins. It includes snehana (oleation-internal and external)and swedana (sudation/sweating) . Snehana and swedana helps the toxins to loosen from the surroundings and move to gastrointestinal tract.
2) PRADHAN KARMA
there are 5 main cleansing methods:
- Vamana– therapeutic emesis.
- Virechana– therapeutic purgation.
- Basti – therapeutic enema.
- Nasya – administration of drugs through nose.
- Raktamokshan– blood letting therapy.
3) PASCHAAT KARMA
after the main cleansing procedure one has to follow the diet and life style regime according to ayurveda to gain a new level of strength and energy.
